Swing Patrol, the London based swing dance group which offers over 40 weekly classes at 34 venues across London and has around 1,000 dancers who join in their various activities, was one of the winners featured in the first programme of a new series of BBC2’s Dragons’ Den this week.

Dragon Deborah Meaden, a born again dance enthusiast after taking part in the last series of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing offered Australian Scott Cupit the full £65,000 he was bidding for, in exchange for 20% of the Swing Patrol business. They will work together on building the brand, extending the reach of Swing Patrol across the UK and launching a new website.

“It won’t change the community we’ve worked so hard to build in London,” Cupit says in a in a video on the Swing Patrol website “We have a really special feel in London, I’m really proud of every member who’s part of the dance community and we’ll fiercely protect that”. He also gives the background story on how he was invited to take part in the show.

“London also has lots of good swing bands. When I got here salsa was on every street corner, I couldn’t believe it, but now swing has taken over. I’m really proud of that.” Cupit tells the Evening Standard, 21 July
