Summer House features an international dance season in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre at The Place. Running alongside the theatre programme, there will be activities including courses and classes and professional seminars, projects and discussions for artists and enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. As part of Touch Wood there’s a chance to see dance in all its stages, from germs of ideas and rough versions of pieces in the studio to fully-grown, polished work in the theatre.

International Dance Season
15 August – 12 September
A programme of of international companies and performers on Thursdays in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre. The programme features La Veronal (Spain), Alessandro Sciarroni (Italy), Jasmina and Cristina (Slovenia), Ann Van den Broek (Belgium) and Loose Collective (Austria).

Choreodrome & Touch Wood
Touch Wood features ideas still under development, and includes discussions and sharing. The works-in-progress staged come from Choreodrome, an annual research and development programme for contemporary choreographers over the summer at The Place. Touch Wood performances will only be finalised at the last moment, a few days (or perhaps hours) in advance. One of the least predictable set of performances, Touch Wood offers the opportunity to see new concepts straight out of the studio.

Summer Intensives
A programme of dance technique classes for absolute beginners through to advanced students. It runs for three weeks and includes week-long residencies led by Phoenix Dance Theatre (5 – 9 Aug), Rambert Dance Company (12 – 16 Aug) and Richard Alston Dance Company (19 – 23 Aug).

Summer House Socials
A series of talks and films which everyone involved in Summer House is invited to join in. They’ve been curated by Keren Kossow, who says:

“the Summerhouse socials are relaxed, informal evenings that continue the exploration of Touch Wood. They are a mixture of talks and film screenings that look at the subjects and ideas that stimulate contemporary artists’ work. The socials are programmed in association with our Work Place artists and they’re a fun way to see some of our artist development work.”
