News: Fight to save Trockadero Underground

For the last four years the basement of the Trocadero Centre in Piccadilly has been a centre for the London hip hop community, where street dancers have been able to gather, perform and meet other dancers. Trocadero Underground has become a magnet for street dancers around the world, with a reputation for being a welcoming place for everyone, regardless of race, gender or skill level.

Recently the dancers have been asked to leave by Criterion Capital & Trocadero Management, in advance of the redevelopment of the site, which will include a new hotel and shops – due to start in 2015. Dancers and supporters of Trocadero Underground have launched a campaign to be allowed to continue to use the space, which includes the video above – and a petition, which has gathered over 2,000 names in a few days.
