Dance UK and Dancers’ Career Development have announced the names of 20 dancers who will be taking part in their 2014/5 mentoring programme. They are Azzurra Ardovini, dance artist (Harrogate); Johnny Autin, dance artist and creative director (Birmingham); Richard Bermange, dancer/choreographer/teacher (London): Neil Callaghan, dance artist (Hampshire); Hannah de Cancho, independent dance artist and Artistic Director, Sole Rebel Tap (Wiltshire); Erik Cavallari, Principal Dancer, Scottish Ballet (Glasgow); Laila Diallo, performer and choreographer (Bristol); Antonia Grove, artistic director/ performer (Brighton); Catherine Long, dance artist (London); Cameron McMillan, dancer/ choreographer (London); Jane Mason, choreographer/ performer (Exeter); Anna Nowak, freelance dance artist and dancer, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance (London); Patricia Okenwa, choreographer and dancer, Rambert (London); Freddie Opoku-Addaie, choreographer, performer, teacher and artistic director (London); Seeta Patel, dancer/ choreographer/ filmmaker (London); Lizzy le Quesne, dance artist and writer (London); Nina Rajarani, Artistic Director, Srishti (Uxbridge); Alesandra Seutin, dance artist and Artistic Director, Vocab Dance Company (London); Karla Shacklock, artistic director/ choreographer/ performer (Bristol) and Kenneth Tindall, choreographer and Premier Dancer, Northern Ballet (Leeds).

Previous mentored dancers have found the programme very benefical. Jonathan Goddard, who used to dance with Rambert and is a founding member of New Movement Collective took part in the mentoring programme two years ago. “I have made a connection to the art world that would have been completely impossible without support from Dance UK”, he says “I have been given invaluable advice about management skills and running a large organisation.”

The selection panel of leading dance professionals included Pedro Machado, Co-Artistic Director, Candoco Dance Company (who personally benefitted from the mentoring scheme in 2006); Marie McCluskey, Founder and Artistic Director, Swindon Dance; Benjamin Dunks, Artistic Director, Attik Dance; Scilla Dyke, Senior Lecturer, Royal Academy of Dance; Monique Deletant Bell, Administrative Director, Akademi; Jennifer Curry, Director of Development, Dancers Career Development, and Jan De Schynkel, former dancer, teacher, choreographer and Arts Council England Relationship Manager.
